James Garner as Detective Rockford

Storyline

The wealthy mother of late race car driver Billy Joe does not believe in his death was caused by an accident. She suspects insurance fraud. To elucidate the series of events she commissions private detective Rockford to find out the truth.

Detective Rockford begins his investigation, which, however, makes insurance manager Springfield uneasily. Springfield is now trying to silence Rockford in order to avoid further snooping around.
